And the Egyptians hated the children of Israel, and afflicted them, and mocked them, and they made their life bitter with hard works in clay, and brick, and with all manner of service, wherewith they were overcharged in the works of the earth ... And the Lord said to Moses: I have seen the affliction of My people in Egypt, and I have heard their cry, because of the rigour of them that are over the works." (Ex, 1:8-14;3:7). God still hears the cry of the oppressed poor.
